Still In A Finishing Mood

I’ve had these bracelets sitting on the edge of my workbench for a couple of weeks now and finally got back to them.

As often happens, I was chugging away on them, merrily enjoying my flow when along comes a cake. While cake and polymer share a lot of similar techniques, they cannot, under any circumstance, share tools and equipment. So, they got put off to the side mid-project as the cake deadline drew closer (and closer as I went through the week thinking that I had until Sunday afternoon, nope, Saturday).

I’ve been wanting to catch up on a lot of those quilt tops that I’ve finished but haven’t done anything with (over a dozen at last count) so I needed to clear the work table a little more, hence, the little bracelets get their moment in the sun (well, the oven).

These were supposed to be snakeskin looking but that’s not really coming through.  I was supposed to do the texture imprinting with this gutter screen but I never got to the hardware store and seriously doubted that they sold it in 6″ lengths.  What on earth was I going to do with the leftovers?  I tried using some modeling screen that I already had, it was the same diamond mesh pattern as the Gutter Guard but much smaller scale.  I’m thinking that it did actually make a difference in this case, I had to  pay WAY more attention to how thin I was shaving slices.

I’m going to try to hit a hardware store tomorrow and at least price the stuff, see if it exists, you know, the homework.

The Final Polymer Entry (Maybe)

I found some heat set pigments that I could stamp onto the polymer clay so now there’s this whole range of images open to me.

These were fun but I’m not sure what to do with them because I’m not really a jewelry wearing sort of gal.  I think the squarish one with the black bars will go onto the cover of a book or something like that.  I can see it with red paper on the outside.

Meag said that she liked the fan shaped one but I like the other geisha.  I have a vague idea of how to turn it into a pendant but no definite timeline.

I have one more bake with some bangle bracelets and then I’m going to put it away for awhile. I have a cake to do for this Sunday.  Fun, fun.

Oh yeah, the little discs are depth gauges for the pasta machine that I use for clay. I’m going to redo them once I have some spare cutters that I don’t mind chucking in with the clay and not with the cookies.
